Webinar | Measuring Women's Economic Empowerment in Financial Inclusion

FinEquity and MEDA co-host this webinar, a parallel event which is part of the NGO UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW)69/ Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (Beijing+30) Forum.

Evidence suggests that when women use financial services, they have increased opportunities to earn income and exercise agency by accessing jobs, starting businesses, and gaining intra-household bargaining power. While researchers, financial service providers, market facilitators, and funders have begun to apply women’s economic empowerment (WEE) measures to understand the wider impact of greater financial inclusion for women, common indicators and guidance do not yet exist. To help address this gap, a core group of WEE experts, together with the FinEquity community, came together to identify and test a proposed menu of indicators for measuring WEE within financial inclusion interventions.

In this session co-hosted by FinEquity and MEDA (Mennonite Economic Development Associates), you will hear about the collaborative learning process used to test and refine the indicators as well as the guidance available for adopting these indicators. Partners who took part in the collaborative process, MEDA, an international economic development organization, BancoSol, the first commercial microfinance bank in the world based in Bolivia, and Women’s World Banking, a global network of financial services providers championing women’s financial inclusion, will share practical insights and discuss how they plan to integrate this into their monitoring tools and processes to measure changes in WEE over time.
