This plastic gas tank restoration came out pretty good after many hours of work. I've always had a hard time restoring / polishing plastic. I usually end up overheating and melting whatever I'm working on (usually practice pieces). I discovered if you fill the gas tank with water it will keep it cool and prevent it from melting. The orbital sander does not do a good job at polishing plastic. In my case the trick was to use a drill (or a rotary buffer) with a clean wool pad and no cutting compound (dry buffing).
