This is the soundtrack to the 2003 obscure Japanese shareware game Mage Bros. by Saito Games, formerly JJSoft. In this game, you control one of the Mage Brothers through several worlds, defeating enemies and lighting torches with your wand. For the soundtrack, Saito Games used a few Yamaha XG Demo MIDIs. However, as most people heard these MIDIs through the standard Windows soundbank, which is a meager implementation of the Roland Sound Canvas with only General MIDI instruments, they weren't heard in the way they were meant to sound.
Unless you happened to have a Yamaha XG-capable soundcard or MIDI module back in the day, properly configured to play any and all MIDI music, a lot of the effects and instruments sounded different or were even missing. Now you can hear these tracks in high quality, played through the Yamaha S-YXG50 VST instrument, as the composer intended. Most of these tracks were composed by Sam Sketty, a UK-based composer for Yamaha MusicSoft Europe, however, the tracks "Cuba" and "Flares" were missing any composer credit, thus are left uncredited here beyond Yamaha MusicSoft. These could have likely been written by Sketty too, though.
