Cecil Dorrian gained prominence during World War I when she was among the first women war correspondents to visit the battlefront, cabling the Newark Evening News firsthand accounts of the war. Our presenter, Carolyn Edy, is the author of The Woman War Correspondent, the U.S. Military, and the Press (2017).
You can find examples of Cecil Dorrian's reporting online now that the Newark Public Library has launched its initiative to digitize the Newark Evening News; issues from 1883 to 1923 are posted at https://www.digifind-it.com/newark/vi...
One example: among Cecil Dorrian's many front-page reports was "Treatment, Inhumane and Worse, Given by Germans to French Women Hostages," which appeared on August 12, 1918 (https://www.digifind-it.com/IDIViewer...)
