Greetings and welcome to my YouTube channel! I do a Live demo in my Facebook group called The Artisan's Workshop Jewelry/Mixed Media Community every other Tuesday @ 2:30 Central time. If you are a jewelry and/or mixed media maker I invite you to join our group! As a group member you will be able to join the Lives in real time and have access to a handout of most project that you can print.
Enameling is so fun and there are tons of different techniques. If you have dabbled with it you may have most of the needed supplies, if not here are some resources to get you started.
Group member Jean Van Brederode has graciously offered our group a 10% discount on supplies in her Etsy shop EnamelWarehouse. Use code SNW10 at checkout. It is good until December 31, 2025. Her shop has a huge inventory of enameling supplies and tools with fast shipping. Trivets, Vitreco floral wafers, millefiori buttons, enamels, Klyr-fire, copper shapes, 9” tripod, heavy duty wire screen for top of trivet; the mesh screen that comes with the trivet will burn through over time so the heavy wire screen is highly recommended.
Frit: COE is important so keep that in mind before you purchase. I mostly use 96 COE and sometimes 104 COE if I can find it. 96 COE is compatible with enamel in small amounts. Glass Diversions on Etsy has a huge variety to choose from.
Millefiori: Muranomillefiori.com has a lot of 104 COE murrini and in different sizes. Smaller is better for melting in without annihilating the enamel. A mosaic nipper is helpful to cut them in half too.
Lori and Kim on Etsy is where I get the majority of murrini but right now their offerings are small. Hopefully they will make more soon.
If you do the immersion method of torch firing enamel you will need a few 1/16” steel mandrels to insert in the 3/32nd” holes in the copper discs. I use junky utility pliers to help remove the hot discs.
For the immersion method I use a small table top propane cylinder with a hot head torch. A working area with a heatproof surface is a must.
My method of enamel is a little different than some. I combine some of the traditional and immersion styles with a little bit of crazy, lol. It works for me, but please take safety precautions.
