During the Cold War, Bosnia and Herzegovina played a significant role in Yugoslavia’s strategy of underground military infrastructure.
Hidden within mountains, forests, and even beneath civilian settlements, these facilities were designed for command continuity, logistics, aviation, and long-term survival in the event of large-scale conflict.
This documentary examines what can be documented about these underground sites — including Tito’s Bunker near Konjic, the Željava Air Base, and lesser-known installations such as the military storage facility in Misoča.
Focusing on historical context, available records, and the limits of documentation, the film avoids speculation and presents these structures as part of a broader Cold War defense strategy.
Some of these sites are now open to the public. Others remain sealed, abandoned, or restricted due to safety and preservation concerns.
This is an observational look at a hidden layer of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s history — built in concrete, concealed by geography, and shaped by the realities of its time.
