The Norfolk pine (Araucaria heterophylla) is an evergreen coniferous tree native to Norfolk Island in the South Pacific. Despite its common name, it is not a true pine (genus Pinus), but a relative of the monkey-puzzle tree belonging to the ancient family Araucariaceae. It is widely cultivated as an ornamental tree in subtropical regions and is very popular as a houseplant or a "living Christmas tree" in cooler climates.
