2013年，巴赫当选国际奥委会主席后，首次出访就选择中国，也是在这一年，中国正式提出申办2022年冬奥会。2017年1月，习近平主席到访国际奥委会总部，巴赫印象深刻的是，“习主席在体育方面是个专家，他认为体育对建设身心健康的社会很重要”。北京2022年冬奥会申办之初，习近平主席曾提出，“中国这次办奥的最大目的就是带动三亿人参与冰雪运动”。两年后的中国，冰雪运动火爆。
In 2013, after Bach was elected president of the International Olympic Committee, he chose China for his first trip abroad. It was also in this year that China officially proposed to bid to host the 2022 Winter Olympics. In January 2017, President Xi Jinping visited the International Olympic Committee headquarters. Bach was deeply impressed that "President Xi is an expert in sports. He believes that sports are important to building a physically and mentally healthy society." At the beginning of Beijing’s bid to host the 2022 Winter Olympics, President Xi Jinping once proposed that “China’s biggest purpose of hosting the Olympics this time is to attract 300 million people to participate in ice and snow sports.” Two years later, ice and snow sports are booming in China.
