Clapton Community FC produced a dominant and professional performance to sweep aside struggling Barkingside FC 4-0 in this East London derby, bolstering their promotion credentials at Step 6.

The Tons, sitting 6th before kick-off, took control early and opened the scoring midway through the first half with a stunning individual effort. James Briggs picked up the ball well outside the area, and reversed curled a superb curling shot into the corner of the net beyond the reach of the home goalkeeper.

Clapton doubled their advantage before half-time through excellent team play. Sharp interplay down the right wing from James Briggs once again rattled the Barkingside defence with his cross, and a precise low shot was emphatically converted by Pete Jamieson for 0-2.

The visitors continued to dominate after the break, adding a third from the star man James Briggs from a stunning free kick.

Despite the three-goal cushion, Clapton goalkeeper and captain Jack Francis remained alert. He produced two outstanding penalty saves minutes apart to deny Barkingside any route back into the contest, preserving his clean sheet with authority and drawing huge cheers from the magnificent travelling support.

The scoring was completed late on when a well-delivered corner from the left was cleverly looped over the keeper and into the far corner.

Barkingside rarely threatened beyond their spot-kicks. The comprehensive victory keeps Clapton firmly in the promotion mix, while deepening the hosts' relegation worries at the foot of the table.
