You get the “You don’t look/seem/act autistic” from people because their definition of autism is that of dysfunction, and it’s a definition you don’t fit. Instead of controlling speech like the abusers do, we should understand why people think of us in the way that they do. We just need to change the culture around autism and get people to understand that we’re not really even talking about the same thing. If anything, “You don’t look autistic” is more of a compliment than an insult.
