Hi, I'm Edward Iron Cloud III, member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe and lifetime resident of the Pine Ridge Reservation. Please help me acquire 1500 acres of land near my community of Porcupine and adjacent to a bison pasture I manage for the Knife Chief Buffalo Nation, a Native-run community organization. While eventually, I would like to incorporate this land into the Knife Chief Pasture, my goal is to use it as a camp for individuals and groups visiting the Reservation which will raise the funds to pay for the lease each year and purchase fencing that will be needed for the bison.
The camp will be outdoor class room and camp ground to teach, promote Lakota Culture to native youth and adults as well as non-native youth and adults willing to learn. Activities would include hikes, camping, horse back riding, equine therapy, putting up tipi's, buffalo pasture tours, gathering of traditional wild foods and plants. Camp will be open to stay for fee to help pay for expanses and scholarships form youth campers.
This project is sponsored by the Lakota Lands Recovery Project (LLRP) a special project of Village Earth, a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization that has worked with grassroots Lakota for 15 years. All donations are tax-deductible (less the value of any perks you may choose to receive). Village Earth has worked with Mr. Iron Cloud and the Knife Chief Buffalo Project since 2003.
