A moderate but technical hike (~12.5 miles but can be cut to 4 miles without Timmon's Arch) along the Rock Bridge Trail, Swift Camp Creek Trail and other unmarked trails in the area.
This route contains three rock arches, and two waterfalls: Creation Falls and Pooch Turtle Falls. To reach Timmons Arch, you have to ford a large creek, and the out-and-back trail makes up 2/3 of this entire hike.
To reach the trailhead from Slade, take KY 15 east for 7 miles to KY 715. Turn left on 715; go 0.3-mile and turn right onto Rock Bridge Road (Forest Service Road 24). Follow this road for 3 miles to its terminus at the Rock Bridge Picnic Area.
From Pine Ridge, take exit 40 off the Mountain Parkway and head west on KY 15. Turn right on KY 715; go 0.3-mile and turn right onto Rock Bridge Road (Forest Service Road 24). Follow this road for 3 miles to its terminus at the Rock Bridge Picnic Area.
Note: This video depicts only a tiny fraction of the vast wilderness around the Red River. Plan ahead to avoid dehydration, exhaustion, inclement weather, and dangerous falls. Getting lost will obviously exacerbate all the above risks.
