It is very rare for audio recordings of shows from the 1960s and 70s to exist period, but to have a recording with a swing/understudy in a leading role is even more rare. Such is the case with this recording of Goodtime Charley, where Kate (Kathleen) Dezina, who was one of the swings, is playing Ann Reinking's part of Joan of Arc opposite Joel Grey. Heard here is "Voices and Visons." This tape was recorded during the final month of the show's run, in May of 1975 at the Palace in new York, where it would close on the 31st of that month. Others in the cast, alongside Grey, included Susan Browning (who was Reinking's official understudy but never went on), Jay Garner, Richard B. Shull, Peggy Cooper, Rhoda Butler, Ed Becker, Grace Keagy and others. The production was directed by Peter H. Hunt, with musical direction by Arthur Rubinstein. Jonathan Tunick and Danny Troob did the orchestrations to the songs by Hal Hackady and Larry Grossman.
Taken from an audience recording of the songs. Larry Blank is the conductor.
