Join me on another camping trip into the Lake District mountains. With my weight loss and increased fitness i'm really starting to push myself to go further and summit more mountains on each trip. I park up at the 30mph signs just outside of Grasmere (plenty of roadside parking) this is where my route will end, which means a 3.5 mile hike before the ascent starts properly. A warm muggy day means that by the time i get to the start of the ascent i'm already sweating heavily. Off into the mountains I go, a steep but steady incline towards the first summit sees views open up nicely, no wind sees me absolutely lathered in sweat within 15 minutes 🤣 After what seems like an age I tap the first summit of the day, Low pike, offering fantastic views over Grasmere and Windermere, especially with the moody clouds in the sky. Then it's on to High pike, Dove crag and Hart crag, the views opening up all the way, a quick rest stop to take on some fluid and a snack bar, then it's off into the fog to hit the days 5th and highest peak, Fairfield at 873 meters. By now the temperature really had dropped, and stopping for any length of time saw me really feel the chill, luck was on my side as when I hit the top the clag had cleared, and 360 moody views were to be had. It's now 4pm, and I decided not to add an extra summit (Seat sandal) it would have really stretched me for time, so I'll have to save that one for another day! Decending over Great rigg I really could feel the temperature warm up hugely, then the final summit and camp spot for the night Stone arthur, 7 Wainwright's, done and boshed them mate 💪💪💪 A cracking days hiking, topped off by a brilliant pitch for the night, bowling green flat with awesome views over Grasmere, Alcock tarn and the surrounding mountains. I get the Durston pitched up with enough time to enjoy my evening meal, and take in a fantastic sunset before getting my head down for the night. As usual im up early, the days really are starting to draw in now, still pitch dark whilst I have my coffee and breakfast, just the start of some sunrise colours as I pack the tent up, but they vanish when some thick clouds roll in. I start my decent just as light is breaking, and 35 minutes later i'm back at the car and ready to go home after another awesome outdoors adventure.
Here's a link to the Garmin route I planned https://connect.garmin.com/modern/cou... which is a variant of the Fairfield horseshoe.
