Vivek Wadhwa, CEO of Vionix Biosciences, criticized Indian startups for prioritizing food delivery over addressing issues like pollution and cancer at the CNN-News18 Rising Bharat Summit 2025.
Entrepreneur Vivek Wadhwa, CEO of Vionix Biosciences, joined the Indian startups debate, while speaking at the CNN-News18 Rising Bharat Summit 2025. “India has access to all the technology required to solve problems. But there are stupid startups doing food delivery instead of focusing on real issues like pollution, cancer cures and more," Wadhwa said.
Delivering a TED Talk – Future Gazing with Vivek Wadhwa, the entrepreneur gave an example of how the iPhone now had sensors that would have cost thousands of dollars 30 to 40 years ago and this technology could actually be used to build smart cities. “I don’t know why India hasn’t done that yet. Its entrepreneurs are busy in billing delivery apps and brain dead startups rather than solving the real problems of India. Why don’t we now put sensors all over Delhi, Punjab and start monitoring everything that happens as it happens in terms of pollution and toxic waste," Wadhwa questioned.
