Carlo Maria Giulini, conductor
The Philharmonia Orchestra
Recorded on June, 1959
at Kingsway Hall, London
This is the ubiquitous Seraphim record everybody had in the 1960s and 70s. Still considered to be one of the finest performances of this symphony, it features the Philharmonia in its prime. Produced by Walter Legge, the recording has a sonic spank that is wonderful. The young Giulini gives this symphony one of the most sensitive and poetic readings on record.
Taken directly from the 1989 EMI digital transfer, it is presented here unfiltered, right as it was from the master tape.
Transfer mastering (1989) EMI, UK
