Understanding the Work of the Holy Spirit
The Work of the Holy Spirit in the Life of the Believer?
As believers it’s important that we understand the role of the Holy Spirit in our lives. We need to learn how He speaks, works, and moves. We need to learn about the gifts of the Holy Spirit as well. We do this by having fellowship with Him and digging into the Bible.

And we are going to do just that! We are going to dig into God’s word see all the things the Holy Spirit does!

*Side Note: This is not any specific order. It’s random and you will be able to find scripture verses with each one.

1. The Holy Spirit Brings Justification and Life
When we become born again we become born of the Spirit. The Holy Spirit comes and cleanses and fills us. He gives us life and we become a new creature in Christ!

I love this quote by D.L Moody…

The work of the Spirit is to impart life, to implant hope, to give liberty, to testify of Christ, to guide us into all truth, to teach us all things, to comfort the believer, and to convict the world of sin.

Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit.- 1 Corinthians 12:3
2. The Holy Spirit Fills the Believer
When we are dry the Holy Spirit refreshes!

When we are empty or low, He fills us!

When we are overflowing He keeps pouring!

This is who He is! When we come to Him no matter where we are at He revives us. And we are encouraged to be filled with Him! I encourage if you haven’t asked the Holy Spirit to fill you and refresh you, do so! He is willing to touch our lives if we would just go to Him.

And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit – Ephesians 5:18

3. The Holy Spirit Fellowships with Us
The Holy Spirit actually desires relationship with us! He wants to partner with us so that we can walk in freedom and experience all the goodness the Lord has for us!

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all. – 2 Corinthians 13:14

4. The Holy Spirit Counsels and Comforts Us
Depending your translation you will see the Holy Spirit being called your Counselor, Comforter, or Helper. That word in the Greek is actuallyparaklētos. Now, that really that deserve a just on it’s on. And maybe I will do that in the future. But for now I will briefly say it means, to be called to one’s side or one who pleads another’s cause before a judge.

In other words….the Holy Spirit has your back! The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of counsel and might, The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord. – Isaiah 11:2
5. The Holy Spirit Empowers Us
The Holy Spirit who is all powerful is willing to empower us. Mind blown! He empowers us to be witnesses (evangelism), but He also empowers with the gifts of the Spirit (for the building up of the church).

But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth. – Acts 1:8
6. The Holy Spirit Teaches and Reminds Us
I love this about the Holy Spirit! He does so much already, but then He goes beyond and teaches us and reminds us. I can’t tell you the countless times I have had a poopy attitude and I was complaining to the Lord. When all of the sudden the Holy Spirit will speak to me and reveal truth.

Here is a silly story of mine when I was a teen. Some guy at church hurt me. And I don’t even remember what it was about. What I do remember was that I was super upset. So, I decided to vent to the Lord. No joke, this what I said to Him….

“Lord, guys suck. Why did you even make them?”

I said it to Him a couple times. All of sudden I felt the presence of the Holy Spirit come on me. He rebuked me and told me that they were His creation and He loved them. He then told me to repent for my attitude towards men.

Well, you can bet I learned something! He taught me a lot in that instant and reminded me of His truth. It’s been 15+ plus years and I remember it clearly.

The Holy Spirit is truly the BEST teacher!

But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. – John 14:26
