ഇത് സന്താൾ എന്ന ട്രൈബൽ കമ്മ്യൂണിറ്റി ആണ്. ഇവർ താമസിക്കുന്ന ഇടത്തിൽ തന്നെ ഇവർ വേട്ടയാടി ആ വേട്ടയെ പാകം ചെയ്യും. വേട്ടയ്ക്ക് പോവുന്നവർക്ക് ഹാന്ഡിയ എന്ന പാനീയം കിട്ടും - കൂടെ കഴിക്കാൻ മാംസവും. This is how Santhal or Santal community of Santhiniketan hunts wild boar and prepare their traditional santhal cuisines. The ones who go for hunting will be responsible for cleaning the hunted animal, and they get their privilege to enjoy Handiya with some cooked internal organs of the boar.

Well, hunting is no more a practice in Bengal. These tribal families do have their own boar (they are no more wild, but domesticated). The village decides whose boar is going to be hunt and then the villagers chase the animal mocking their past hunting experience. The hunters are also responsible for cleaning the animal and cutting the meat to match the preparation.
The hunters will later enjoy Handiya (rice beer) that is already prepared with a quick preparation of internal organs of the hunted animal. Meanwhile, the major part of the meat will be cooked in detail by a different team.
I was lucky to enjoy both the hunting part and the cooking part. I also enjoyed the taste of handiya (tribal rice beer), quick preparation of internal organs, and the major tribal delicacy made from the wild boar. It was a completely new and different experience for me in the tribal village of Shantinikethan with Santhal Tribe People.
