Bill Fitzhugh describes a maritime Indian culture near the Arctic that originated about 8,000 years ago. Despite northeastern Indians not being known as “ocean people,” this archaic maritime culture thrived for some 4,000 years before disappearing when the climate cooled. Bill is the museum’s Curator of North American Archaeology.
