The Jokkmokk Market, far up north in Sweden, is a melting pot of cultural heritages. It's been a February fixture way back since 1606. With exhibitions of Arctic life through art, design, food and culture, the market usually attracts som 50,000 visitors, from Sápmi and other parts of the world.
Audio description: The film opens with an exterior shot over Jokkmokk Market. It is winter and visitors are dressed accordingly. Some people in the crowd wear traditional Sami garments. Artist and reindeer herder Leila Nutti speaks. A woman sowing ahead of the event, a woman putting on a traditional Sami folk costume, the Sami flag wavering in the air, and a reindeer meat dish served at a restaurant are shown. Reindeer with grown antlers are shown in snowy landscapes with herder Per Kuhmunen. Kuhmunen speaks and is then seen walking his reindeer through the crowds of the market together with a boy. They are both wearing traditional Sami costumes. Night shots from a concert at the market and Sami museum interiors are shown. Photos of reindeer herding and Sami knives are shown. Leila Nutti is shown painting a picture of reindeer. Night shots of Jokkmokk are shown, with cars driving through.
