The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has introduced a powerful AI-driven tool named MuleHunterAI to combat the growing threat of mule bank accounts, which are often exploited by cybercriminals for money laundering and financial fraud. Developed by the Reserve Bank Innovation Hub (RBIH) in Bengaluru, this model enables efficient detection and prevention of fraudulent accounts. A pilot program conducted with two major public sector banks showcased promising results. The RBI is now collaborating with banks to further refine MuleHunterAI. Additionally, the government is emphasizing inter-bank collaboration, advanced AI/ML solutions, and staff training to curb digital fraud. The initiative represents a significant step toward safeguarding the financial ecosystem against illicit activities.
