3D Bangkok Skyscraper: Simulated Collapse

On March 28th, a deadly magnitude 7.7 earthquake hit Myanmar causing a skyscraper to collapse in Bangkok, Thailand, about 1000 kilometers away. This simulation aims to better illustrate the unexpected structural failure without the presence of a debris cloud or smoke signature.

According to the official USGS earthquake ShakeMap, a seismic station located 3 km from the 30-story skyscraper recorded a ground acceleration of approximately 0.07g, equivalent to MMI VI (strong).

I hope that my simulations will educate the general public about potential earthquake related hazards and create more curiosity about Earth Science in general.
