Wazalendo SACCO Donates Sports Kits to 20 UPDF Teams Participating in the 2025 CDF Cup

Wazalendo SACCO has donated sports kits to 20 Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) teams currently camping in Masaka for the 17th edition of the Chief of Defense forces Cup (CDF Cup).

The Wazalendo SACCO is an institutional Sacco composed of Uganda People's Defence Force (UPDF) personnel and their families, UPDF Reserve Forces, and staff of Uganda's Ministry of Defence.

While receiving the Sports Kits at Masaka Secondary School sports grounds, the tournament host Division Commander, Maj. Gen Deus Sande of Kasijjagirwa- Masaka Armoured Division commended Wazalendo SACCO for their corporate social responsibility of donating kits and asked the twenty formations and services of the UPDF participating in the tournament to maintain maximum discipline as they rejoice during the tournament.

“As the Commander of the Armoured Division and the host I welcome you to Masaka, you’re right at home and we are here for games to unite, get to know each other and become more professional.” Maj. Gen. Deus Sande said.

Brig. Gen. Richard Karemire, the Joint staff for Education, Sports and Culture of the UPDF applauded the Wazalendo SACCO for always sponsoring the Forces with Kits Annually in the forces which strengthens internal cohesion in the Army and building the bond with civilians.

Lt. Col Julius Katanaka, the Acting Director of Finance at Wazalendo SACCO said sports is part of their ethos because it creates discipline, team work and builds cohesion with the UPDF members who are their backbone that’s why they have donated 360 pairs of men’s uniform and 200 pairs of ladies uniforms with their bibs.

“We are privileged to sponsor the teams with sports uniforms as part of our social corporate responsibility. Wazalendo is now a 1.3trillion SACCO which is saved by members and we are honored to give back part of their profits made during the year. This will not only build the bond today, but will also build the bond of the UPDF in the near Future.” Lt. Col. Julius Katanaka said.

The 17th Edition of the CDF Cup will officially commence on Tuesday 26th August 2025 at Masaka Secondary School and the climax will be held on 15th September 2025 under the theme; Physical Fitness, Combat readiness and Prevention of Non-Communicable diseases through sports and the main disciplines will be Football, Netball and range (shooting) plus tree planting.

At least 20 teams representing different services and formations of the UPDF will participate in the Tournament and the key objectives of this tournament will include enhancing the culture of physical and mental illness of the Defense forces through sports, Discipline, command & control and Military relations and the Chief Guest will be the UPDF Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

The one and a half weeks CDF Cup 2015 will attract the 20 formations and services of the UPDF which include; the 1st Infantry Division, 2nd Infantry Division, 3rd Infantry Division, 4th Infantry Division, 5th Infantry Division, Mountain Division, Field Artillery Division, Armoured Division, Motorised Infantry Division, Air Force, Magamaga Cantonment, Special Forces Command (SFC), Military Police, Kabamba Cantonment, Marines Brigade, Chieftaincy of Defense Intelligence and Security (CDIS), Jinja Cantonment, Bombo General Headquarters and the Engineers Brigade.
