ये प्रेमगीत लग सकता है, मूलत: है भी वही. एसमीज़ भाषा के इस गाने का हिंदी तरजुमा करें तो मतलब होगा- “जादुई रात की गोद में मैंने तुम्हारी तस्वीर देखी”. लेकिन असम और न जाने भारत के कितने घरों में ये गाना प्रेमगीत नहीं, शोकगीत की तरह सुना गया. कारण? जब असम के सबसे बड़े आइकंस में से एक ज़ुबीन गर्ग के निधन की ख़बर आई. तो सबको याद आया कि साल 2019, गुवाहाटी में एक कांसर्ट के दौरान ज़ुबिन ने खुद कहा- किसी दिन मैं न रहूं, तो मुझे इस गाने से याद करना.
लेकिन ज़ुबिन की मौत को लेकर जनता के दिल में सिर्फ़ शोक नहीं, क्षोभ भी है. कारण है वो रहस्यमयी हालात जिनमें उनकी मृत्यु हुई और वो Questionable तरीका जिस तरह से उनकी मृत्यु की Investigation की गई. 19 सितंबर 2025 में हुई ज़ुबिन की मौत जहां पहले हादसा लगी, फिर साज़िश और अब इस साज़िश में शामिल हो चुकी हैं कई और परतें. इन्हीं परतों को आज खोलेंगे. समझेंगे कि आखिर Zubeen Garg असम के लिए कौन थे, 19 सितंबर 2025 को सिंगापुर में Exactly हुआ क्या था? क्या कुछ लोग हैं जो इस केस के सॉल्व होने में बाधा बन रहे हैं? वहीं ज़ुबिन जिन्होंने गाया पॉलिटिक्स नोकोरिबा बोन्धू…. उन्हीं की मौत पर राजनीति क्यों हो रही है? इस एपिसोड में हमारे साथ हैं India Today NE को संभालने वाले… साथ ही India Today Magazine के Managing Editor Kaushik Deka.. जिन्होंने न सिर्फ़ अपनी ज़िंदगी के कई साल ज़ुबिन गर्ग के साथ बिताए.. बल्कि वो उन चंद लोगों में से हैं जो ज़ुबिन के जाने के बाद भी लगातार उनके केस पर लिख रहे हैं.
It may sound like a love song — and in essence, it is.
The Assamese lines “মায়াবনী রাতিৰ বুকুত, দেখা পালোঁ তোমাৰ ছবি” translate to —
"In the lap of a magical night, I saw your picture."
But in Assam, and in countless homes across India, this song was not heard as a love song — it was mourned as an elegy. The reason? When news broke of the death of one of Assam’s biggest icons, Zubeen Garg, everyone remembered that moment from 2019 in Guwahati — when during a concert, Zubeen himself had said,
"The day I am gone, remember me with this song."
Yet, what fills the hearts of people now is not just grief, but anger — anger over the mysterious circumstances of his death and the questionable investigation that followed. Zubeen’s death on September 19, 2025, was first called an accident, then a conspiracy — and now, several more layers of that conspiracy have begun to unfold.
In this episode, we’ll peel back those layers — to understand who Zubeen Garg truly was for Assam, what exactly happened in Singapore on September 19, 2025, and who might be obstructing the investigation.
And we’ll ask — why is there politics over the death of the same Zubeen who once sang “Politics nokoriba bondhu” (Don’t play politics, my friend)?
Joining us in this episode is Kaushik Deka, the Managing Editor of India Today Magazine and the head of India Today NE, who not only spent years of his life with Zubeen Garg but remains one of the few who continue to write about the case even after his death.
