تَنزِيلُ الْكِتَابِ مِنَ اللَّهِ الْعَزِيزِ الْعَلِيمِ
غَافِرِ الذَّنْبِ وَقَابِلِ التَّوْبِ شَدِيدِ الْعِقَابِ ذِي الطَّوْلِ ۖ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ إِلَيْهِ الْمَصِيرُ

وَاللَّهُ يَقْضِي بِالْحَقِّ ۖ وَالَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِهِ لَا يَقْضُونَ بِشَيْءٍ ۗ إِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْبَصِيرُ

English Translation:
Ha Meem.
The revelation of the Book is from Allah, the Exalted in Might, the All-Knowing.
Forgiver of sin, Accepter of repentance, severe in punishment, Owner of abundance. There is no deity except Him; to Him is the final return.

And Allah decides in truth, while those they call upon besides Him decide nothing. Indeed, Allah is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing.

Reflection (very long, deep):
The opening of Surah Al-Mu’min is one of the most striking introductions in the Qur’an. It begins with two mysterious letters—حم—known only to Allah. These letters are a reminder that the Qur’an is made of the same language, the same letters that humans use daily, yet none can match its divine perfection.

Immediately, Allah introduces Himself as the One who forgives sins and accepts repentance, showing mercy beyond what humans can comprehend. Yet, alongside His mercy, He warns of His severe punishment. This duality of mercy and justice is what gives balance to our faith: hope in His forgiveness, and fear of His accountability.

The verses cut straight into the reality of life: no matter how powerful people think they are, no matter how many idols or systems they turn to, nothing has authority except Allah. Human beings may pass judgments, rulers may enforce laws, false gods may be worshipped, but in the end, their decisions hold no weight. Only Allah’s decree stands.

The reflection deepens when we think about the names used here: Allah is the All-Hearing (As-Sami‘) and the All-Seeing (Al-Basir). Every cry of the oppressed, every whisper of the heart, every injustice that seems ignored—Allah hears it all, sees it all. This verse reassures the broken and warns the arrogant.

When Sheikh Ghamdi recites these words with such emotion, it feels as if the Qur’an itself is calling us back to our reality: return to Allah before you are returned to Him. The surah reminds us that life is temporary, power is temporary, and only truth will remain.
