In this video, we present an early treatment approach for a Class 3 patient. As you can see, the lower lip is quite prominent. The primary goal in phase 1 treatment for Class 3 patients is to develop the maxilla and its dentition. This involves expanding the maxillary dental arch and aligning the teeth to correct the crossbite. The aim is to prevent overdevelopment of the maxilla during the pubertal growth spurt. Using crisscross elastics can aid in correcting the crossbite. Once the crossbite is corrected, the lower teeth will bite behind the maxillary teeth, and each time the mouth closes, the lower jaw will be restrained.
In the maxillary view, you can see arch development through expansion with a trans-palatal arch and teeth leveling. After the braces are removed, we wait for growth to stop to conduct a final orthodontic analysis and determine the best way to finalize the case, which may involve extractions or orthognathic surgery.
