After 17 years living in Dijon, France, I just experienced reverse culture shock during my recent three-week trip back to America. From the massive size of produce and coffee cups to the chaotic driving culture where passing on the right is normal (unlike France where it's definitely NOT), many things felt surprisingly strange in my own homeland. I was shocked by helmet-free motorcyclists, monster-sized trucks, exposed power lines everywhere, and bathroom stalls with zero privacy - not to mention the sticker shock of American prices. As someone who's now lived abroad almost as long as I lived in America, I'm sharing all the surprising moments that made me feel like a tourist in my own country, and I'd love to hear about your own reverse culture shock experiences.
