I started my hike at the start of Pico do Arieiro and hiked on the PR1 trail to the summit of Pico Ruivo. This hike was a strenuous 6.7 miles out and back but the views were astonishing. Climbing the Stairway to Heaven, hiking above the clouds, and gazing out to the ocean from afar is well worth the strenuous hike.
