Merging Autonomy with Manual Control for Wheelchair Users

Michigan Engineering researchers are developing an autonomous wheelchair that can give control back to its user. Called CoNav, this motorized wheelchair uses lidar and 3D cameras to operate much like an autonomous vehicle would, but with the capability for the rider to regain control if they are uncomfortable with how the wheelchair is operating.
