October 28, 1975. 11:15 PM. Giuseppe's Italian Restaurant, Ybor City, Tampa.
A young crew smashes the windows, kicks in the door, destroys furniture,
spray-paints "PAY UP" on the walls.
Giuseppe Moretti, 72, has owned this restaurant for 38 years. Never
bothered anyone. Just served excellent food with dignity.
What the vandals didn't know: This was Santo Trafficante's favorite
restaurant. Every Thursday for 20 years, same booth, same time.
6 AM the next morning: Giuseppe finds an envelope on his doorstep.
Inside: $10,000 cash and a handwritten note from Santo.
By 9 AM: Made men start arriving. One by one. All morning long.
By noon: Over 40 connected individuals have visited Giuseppe's to
apologize and show respect.
What happened next became Tampa legend.
