A conversation with my teacher, Don Juan Nuñez del Prado Behar, anthropologist and Paqo - that’s what he would call himself, but I would call him an Andean Master.
Juan talks about how he came to the Andean tradition back in 1968. How he later went on to study with his teachers - Don Benito Qoriwaman, Don Melchor Desa and Don Andres Espinosa, before starting to teach the Andean tradition in 1991. Or as he calls it - ‘Andean Spiritual Art’ - he tells us what it is all about and its essential practices. How some of the practices are similar to the yoga of Sri Aurobindo and other forms of spirituality. Then we talk about Wachay and Wañuy, how recapitulating your life and facing your ultimate death, can help alleviate depression and anxiety. All very poignant as we face the collective trauma in this pandemic of 2020.
The meeting took place on the 27 October 2020
