Tricked Into Female Genital Mutilation - They Cut Me Without Consent

Valerie Lolomari was just 16 when she was taken on what she thought was a holiday with her grandmother - someone she trusted and loved deeply.

Instead, she was subjected to female genital mutilation (FGM), an experience that left her with lifelong physical and emotional scars.

Years later, after struggling in silence with trauma, pain and repeated miscarriages, Valerie found the strength to speak out. Now, she is using her voice to help other survivors, challenge cultural misconceptions and campaign for an end to this horrific practice.
  
FGM is illegal in the UK. Perpetrators can face up to 14 years in prison and anyone failing to protect a child from FGM can receive up to 7 years in prison. It’s a serious crime and we’re committed to protecting girls and women from going through what Valerie went through.
