Bireli Lagrene, Favino-Gitarren – Reise in die Zukunft & „Erster Tango“ Django's Tiger

Es ist besonders interessant, den Werdegang des Jan Jankeje Gypsy Projekts mit Pierre „Bireli“ Lagrene von Beginn an als dokumentarische Zeitreise zu betrachten. Dieses Video stellt ein wertvolles historisches Dokument dar.
Gezeigt wird unter anderem die außergewöhnliche Großzügigkeit von Gertraud Jankejova († R.I.P.), der Gründerin von jazzpoint.de und Ehefrau von Jan Jankeje. Sie ermöglichte und finanzierte im Jahr 1980 eine Reise nach Paris – zur damaligen Quelle des authentischen Gypsy Jazz. Ziel dieser Reise war es, persönlich die passenden Instrumente auszuwählen und zu erwerben.
Dank ihrer großzügigen Unterstützung konnten drei originale Favino-Gitarren gekauft werden. Gitarren der Marke Favino zählen heute zu den renommiertesten und begehrtesten Instrumenten im Bereich des Gypsy Jazz. Bereits damals galt der Name Favino als Inbegriff für Qualität, Klang und Authentizität – ein wahrer Traum für jeden Gypsy-Jazz-Gitarristen.
Die Dokumentation zeigt eindrucksvolle Aufnahmen der Reise mit einem VW-Bus nach Paris und zurück, untermalt von der Komposition „Erster Tango“ (Querelle) von Jan Jankeje, die dem Film eine emotionale und zeitgeschichtliche Tiefe verleiht.
Im Video sind unter anderem Bireli, Gaiti, Gertie, Tschirglo und Jan zu sehen.

Bireli Lagrene, guitares Favino – Voyage vers l’avenir & « Erster Tango »
Il est particulièrement intéressant de considérer le parcours du Jan Jankeje Gypsy Project avec Pierre « Bireli » Lagrene, dès ses débuts, comme un véritable voyage documentaire dans le temps. Cette vidéo constitue un document historique précieux.
Elle met notamment en lumière la grande générosité de Gertraud Jankejova († R.I.P.), fondatrice de jazzpoint.de et épouse de Jan Jankeje. En 1980, elle a rendu possible et financé un voyage à Paris, alors considéré comme la source authentique du jazz manouche. L’objectif de ce voyage était de choisir personnellement les instruments appropriés et de les acquérir sur place.
Grâce à son soutien généreux, trois guitares originales Favino ont pu être achetées. Les guitares de la marque Favino comptent aujourd’hui parmi les instruments les plus renommés et les plus recherchés dans le domaine du jazz manouche. Déjà à l’époque, le nom Favino était synonyme de qualité sonore, d’authenticité et de prestige – un véritable rêve pour tout guitariste de jazz manouche.
Le documentaire présente des images impressionnantes du voyage en combi VW jusqu’à Paris et du retour, accompagnées en musique par la composition « Erster Tango » de Jan Jankeje, qui confère au film une profondeur émotionnelle et historique particulière.
On y voit notamment Bireli, Gaiti, Gertie, Tschirglo et Jan.

Bireli Lagrene, Favino Guitars – Journey into the Future & “Erster Tango”
It is particularly interesting to view the development of the Jan Jankeje Gypsy Project with Pierre “Bireli” Lagrene from its very beginnings as a documentary journey through time. This video represents a valuable historical document.
It highlights, among other things, the remarkable generosity of Gertraud Jankejova († R.I.P.), founder of jazzpoint.de and wife of Jan Jankeje. In 1980, she made possible and financed a trip to Paris, which at the time was considered the authentic source of Gypsy Jazz. The purpose of this journey was to personally select the appropriate instruments and acquire them on site.
Thanks to her generous support, three original Favino guitars were purchased. Guitars by the Favino brand are today regarded as some of the most renowned and sought-after instruments in the field of Gypsy Jazz. Even then, the name Favino stood for outstanding quality, authentic sound, and prestige—a true dream for any Gypsy Jazz guitarist.
The documentary features impressive footage of the journey in a VW bus to Paris and back, accompanied by the composition “Erster Tango” by Jan Jankeje, which gives the film a special emotional and historical depth.
