た form+あげく(に)
Noun + の+あげく(に)
to end up; in the end; finally; after all
「いろいろAした後で、最後にBになった。」
「Aあげく、B」means “After doing various things, I finally became B”. Part A contains a sentence that means that there were various difficult things. Part B contains a disappointing result.
It is often used together with 「いろいろ」 and 「さんざん」。
It cannot be used for one-time things or things that were easy to do.
★Difference between 結果 VS あげく★
た form+結果
Noun + の+結果
“ as a result of; after “ (結果 means “result”)
• It can also be used for one-time or things that were easy to do.
• It can also be used for natural phenomena and objective facts, regardless of the speaker's emotions.
た form+あげく(に)
Noun + の+あげく(に)
• It cannot be used for one-time or things that were easy to do.
• It mainly includes the feelings of the speaker, and the latter can only be used in the case of bad results.
〇さんざん話し合った結果、来年結婚することになりました。
×さんざん話し合ったあげく、来年結婚することになりました。
