Specifically, in most inversion in English the verb will come before the subject. Rather than following the traditional pattern of subject + verb + object, inversion usually follows the formula of verb + subject + object. Ex: I study English. = Do you study English? I’ve never been so happy = Never have a been so happy. If you had studied harder, you would have passed your test. = Had you studied harder, you would’ve passed your test.


The 7 Ways to use Inversion in English Grammar are:
1) To make Questions
2) With Negative Adverbs and Negative Adverb Phrases at the beginning to sound more dramatic
3) In the second part of a sentence with fixed expressions beginning with ‘only’ or ‘not’
