Chaotic Alaska Tsunami Evacuation to THIS

Nothing is quite as alarming as receiving a tsunami evacuation warning on your phone, than when you are in the worst area possible, living in your van on the Homer Spit, Alaska. Our worst nightmare became reality when we received the emergency alert on July 16, 2025. We quickly packed up our vans and left, along with others in the area trying to get to higher ground.

When you live in a van, you don't have a secure place to go, so we did the only thing we knew how. We drove as far as we could into the Kenai Peninsula. We later found out that the warning was downgraded and then cancelled, but not before we found a new campsite. Our evacuation had led us to van life paradise and what might be our favorite wild campsite of all time. It was remote, free, and completely beautiful. It's funny how things have a way of working themselves out.
