During a live speech on YTN television, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol proclaimed martial law. He charged in his statement that the Democratic Party, which controls a majority of the National Assembly, has North Korean sympathies. Press freedom was suspended and all political activities, including those of the National Assembly, were prohibited under the decree. Nevertheless, it was taken down six hours after it was announced.
