Can you bake your needle felted sculptures in the oven??

Once upon a time, a long time a go I think I remember hearing someone say you could add polymer clay to your needle felted sculptures and then bake them in the oven
Is this crazy or a great idea?? Does this work? is this a technique that will really help - or a terrible tip that will burn your house down?
