Malachi now informs the priest and Levites (and anyone who minister or represents God) of the consequences of their insincere and familiar service. He informs them that they will be cast out along with the dung and entrails of the offerings that are performing. (Dung will be smeared on their faces.)
He reminds them of the fear, dedication, and passion the Levites once had -- and how they are now failing miserably in their duties.
In addition to these sins, God accuses them of failing in their marriages --by abandoning, ignoring, and even divorcing their wives. God calls their actions 'treacherous', claiming that their garment of protection has become a garment of violence.
The response of prophets is a childish retort, demanding God to explain the apparent injustice of the wicked getting rich and the righteous enduring calamity.
