AP Statistics – Unit F3: Sampling Distributions for Means
Note: The TI 84 emulator was not working well at the time of this video, so it is not currently included. We do have videos for the Numworks calculator. I plan to update this video when this is resolved.
In this video, we explore sampling distributions for means and differences of means and how sample size affects the shape, center, and spread of a statistic. Using simulations and formulas, we connect the Central Limit Theorem to real probability questions and practice deciding when a Normal model is appropriate.
Key ideas include:
Why increasing sample size does not make the population Normal, but does make the sampling distribution of the mean approximately Normal
How the mean of a sampling distribution relates to the population mean
Why the spread decreases as sample size increases
How to check conditions (Random, Normal/Large Sample, and 10%) before using a Normal model
Writing a clear distribution model and probability statement
Interpreting probabilities using repeated random samples language
This video supports the F3 notes and examples, including SAT score contexts and differences of means.
