When Steve and I finished the second recording session of his oral history on April 17, 2018, he went on to say…...”what I want to say now, this part, will not be part of the story as long as I am living…this is a verbal contract”. He wanted this segment released after his death and he proceeded to talk about his illness. I had known he was fighting cancer but we had not discussed it. When he started to talk about the cancer I was very surprised. Steve wanted you to know about his fight with cancer after his death.
Steve and I spent a total of seven hours recording his story. Two of those hours turned out to be distorted and not listenable. I called him and asked if I could return to record again. He was very gracious about it for he had been a recording engineer and knew the mistakes that could be made.
It was after this re-recording that Steve said ”This will not be part of the story as long as I am living”. (If it had not been for that distortion problem this addendum would never have been recorded.)
