Breaking News December 9 2025

The headlines this morning reveal the problems moving forward with either of the two major “Peace Plans” Israel/Hamas and Russia/Ukraine. At this time, there does not seem to be any chance for a breakthrough as all sides have hardened their positions.

Headline 1 Gaza ceasefire's Catch-22: Hamas delays disarmament as it calls for IDF withdrawal – analysis (Jerusalem Post)

Hamas says it won't disarm while the IDF is in Gaza and suggests a long-term truce or 'storing' its arms. Meanwhile, the IDF likely won't leave half of Gaza until Hamas disarms.

Hamas is trying to slow-play the Gaza ceasefire deal so that it can eke out as much wiggle room as possible and remain in charge of Gaza.

... The goal of the terror group now is to perpetuate a Catch-22 in Gaza, where it says it will only disarm if the IDF withdraws, knowing the IDF won’t agree to that until Hamas disarms.

... There is no major pressure in Israel or incentive to go back to war.

Despite the optimism, coming to an agreement where both sides are satisfied seems hopeless. Something will have to give. Just what it is, and when it will happen, is anybody’s guess.

Headline 2 Ukraine’s Zelensky refuses to give up land to Russia: ‘Precisely what we are fighting for’ (NY Post)

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was adamant Monday that Kyiv would not cede territory to Russia — a central demand Moscow has pushed and one that appears in the latest draft of the US-negotiated proposal to end the war in Ukraine.

... “To be honest, the Americans are looking for a compromise today,” he added.

As with the previous story, there does not seem to be any way out of this fiasco as long as both sides have their red lines. Will there be an agreement? In the short term, it seems highly unlikely.

Our final two stories illustrate how difficult it will be for Israel to involve either Turkey, Qatar, or the Palestinian authority in its future as it attempts to remove Hamas from Gaza.

Headline 3 Why Turkey and Qatar Should Be Kept Away From Gaza (Gatestone)

One of the keynote speakers at the conference [hosted by Turkey] was Khaled Mashaal, a senior Hamas leader based in Qatar.

Mashaal declared that the time has come for the Muslim nation to "commit to the liberation of Jerusalem." He defined this act as the symbol and strategic key to "liberating all of Palestine" -- meaning the destruction of Israel and replacing it with an Islamist state.

As the conference was underway, Israeli authorities revealed documents that show that Hamas is operating a system of Gazan moneychangers who live in Turkey and exploit the country's financial infrastructure to secretly finance terrorism.

... Allowing Turkey or Qatar to play any role in the Gaza Strip means empowering Hamas to reassert its control of the coastal area and rearm and regroup. Turkey and Qatar are not going to participate in any effort to disarm Hamas or destroy terror infrastructure in the Gaza Strip.

And therein lies the problem for Israel!

Headline 4 EU forced to admit it was deceived by PA (Israel HaYom)

The report notes documentation of payment collection from Palestinian postal branches. It was further noted that terrorists who were released in the deal received salaries throughout their time in prison, and some even received additional grants from the Authority after their release.

In other words, the Palestinian authority continues to deceive the West about its intentions. Israel, of course, is well aware of who they are, as well as what they do. This is why they will not allow them to have any future control over Gaza... they cannot be trusted!

So, here we are again, with stalemates all around us. Nobody knows what will happen next or when it will happen. However, we do know what will eventually happen, but we do not know when or how it will come about.
