On the UNESCO world heritage maps I have found that here in Biezczady, south-eastern Poland, supposedly there should still be a few 1000 hectares left. Generally, old-growth forest remnants are found on high elevations in difficult-to-access, mountainous terrain where it would have been very challenging to exploit them. And so today we are climbing up, trekking deep into the forests to hopefully find an old-growth mountain forest...
