In Genesis 2:7, the Bible tells us, “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” In Psalm 8:5, “For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels.” Psalms 119:73, “Thy hands have made me and fashioned me.” In Jer 1:5 “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee.” All these verses tell us, and there are more, that it is God who made us. We are indebted to God for life. It is directly expressed in Psalms 100:3, but we read from verse 1, “Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. Psalms 100:2 Serve the LORD with gladness: come before His presence with singing. Psalms 100:3 Know ye that the LORD He is God:” it is He that hath made us, and not we ourselves. The Bible calls upon us not to live our lives as though we are the makers of our own lives. There is an expression which we are familiar, it is ‘a self-made man’, or ‘a self-made woman.’ You have heard of ‘a self-made millionaire.’ All of these are biblically incorrect. It is God who makes us. The mind required to pursue the degree comes from God. The strength required to do this or that comes from God. Because in him, through him, we live and move and have our being. So the Bible tells me and you, it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves. With this in mind, we can understand 1 Thes 5:18, “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” We must live our lives, my listening friend, with the consciousness that we are made by God. To think differently is merely to practice a philosophy called humanism, that I’m not sure if the word ‘philosophy’ is correct. But humanism essentially sees no need for the supernatural. There is no need for God in the life. The humanist believes that he or she can reach moral heights without supernatural aid. The humanist believes that human experience and reason are the basis for the development of moral standards. The Bible tells us, it is He that hath made us, and not we ourselves. And because He made us, He gives us the manual of operation, and that manual of course is God’s word. My listening friend, as you keep the Sabbath holy, remember, the creator made us by imparting to our first parents the power to procreate. And so it is He that hath made us, it is He that makes us, every life is based on God. Whether that life is an animal life, plant life, human life, macroscopic or microscopic, all life requires God. As you keep the Sabbath holy, remember, the one who said let there be light, the one who said let the earth bring forth abundantly the moving creature that have life, the one who said, remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy, it is He that hath made us, and not we ourselves. And so we ought to develop a lifestyle in which we give God credit, constantly. We recognize God as the one responsible for our lives, not our sins, for our lives. And as we say in my society, ‘give Jack his jacket,’ or you may know it as ‘give credit where credit is due.’ May the Lord bless you, as you live with the consciousness that you are responsible to God, you ought to give thanks unendingly for life, for achievements, for accomplishments, for honor, for greatness, the list can go on and on. Happy Sabbath, God bless you and doubly bless your children.
