Fire paramedics needed in Clark County

The Clark County Fire Department wants to hire paramedics but is competing with other departments around the country to fill positions.

“There’s a national shortage of firefighter paramedics,” Asst. Fire Chief Mack Travis said. “So, we have to run an additional paramedic recruitment each time we want to begin rookie school Contractually, we’re obligated to hire 50 percent paramedics in all of our rookie schools. So, we try to meet that objective with each booking academy.”

Travis leads recruitment efforts for CCFD and said the department actively recruits firefighters every two years. However, a separate recruitment is needed for fire paramedics.
