The 2024 Lehigh River Mega Release: Featuring The Good Times & Teamwork of Rafting The Last Rapids of "The Lower Section:"Sea of Rocks, & Tower AKA Snaggletooth, at 2,540cfs
Whitewater Rafting: Sea of Rocks, & Tower AKA Snaggletooth, on the Lehigh River during the annual "Mega Release" with: @RiverTrailOutfitters @FrankensteinDIYkayak, @glenndouglass9921 @lisamassee2139, @jerkonoza7812
The end of the ride..
These are the good days...living it up & living right.
The Lehigh thrill of the year...long awaited, and top tier fun, on par with and to the likes of the annual Lehigh Classic downriver race. The day began with starting "The Marathon" at the White Haven Put-In for The Upper Section, at peak flow of 3,360cfs. By the time we reached The Lower Section, it was still kicking at 3,330cfs, but even with steady cruising with no breaks, by the time we reached Sea of Rocks, it had dropped to 2,250cfs, which was very noticeable, in feeling the bubble drop a little ways after Oxbow. The Friday release began at 1:00 AM, and ramped up to 3,570cfs by 1:30 AM, with peak flow lasting to 12:30 PM, when the ramp down began, decreasing to 2,500. The ramp down began 30 minutes early than advertised by the U.S Army Corps of Engineers. The ramp down was slated to begin at 1:00 PM, making it essential for an early start to run the entire "The Marathon" at peak flow. The fun had dropped 1,080cfs from Rockport to Sea of Rocks & Boulder Garden. Based on our run, it is suggested to be on the water at White Haven by 9:00 AM, and to only break once for the best odds in not losing the max flow bubble.

Description per American Whitewater:
Tower AKA Snaggletooth: "Tower (named for a small railroad tower on the right bank - also called Snaggletooth) is the best the Lehigh has to offer. A long technical rapid with a lot of rocks and waves, it just gets better with more water. Not a place to be out of your boat, though. From Iron Ring Eddy head immediately to the center of the river (or better yet, skip the eddy) to avoid a set of pinning rocks on the right side. Cut back right, behind the rocks and pick your way down to a river wide rocky ledge/drop. Run it through slots on far right or in the center. Once past the ledge, enjoy the bouncy waves until it mellows out a little. Then you will see Battleship Rock slightly to the right of the current. At under 1000 cfs, it is the worst (or best) pinning spot on the river (my personal record is 3 rafts wrapped one on top of each other)..." - https://www.americanwhitewater.org/co...
