Exploring the Chappaquiddick Incident of July 18-19, 1969

Come along with me as I visit the locations where the events of the Chappaquiddick Incident of 1969 unfolded, and explore the tragic incident in detail. Sometime between July 18 & 19, 1969, Ted Kennedy drove his car off a narrow wooden bridge into the waters below. Mr. Kennedy managed to escape the submerged vehicle. However, his passenger did not. This incident tragically resulted in the untimely death of 28-year old Mary Jo Kopechne, an intelligent young lady with a bright future ahead of her in the world of politics.

In the decades since, there has been much speculation as to exactly what occurred that night resulting in one of our country’s biggest unsolved mysteries. As I take you on a tour of the locations, I'll be showing you up close and personal the cottage where the party was held that night, the party from which Kennedy and Mary Jo departed for unknown reasons. I'll show you the point where he claimed to have accidentally turned off the smooth paved road onto the dirt road which led to the bridge without realizing his error. I'll be showing you that bridge itself, which bears two memorial markets to Mary Jo. From there, I'll show you the ferry he would have taken from Edgartown to Chappaquiddick upon his arrival, the Yacht Club where he raised his sailboat that weekend (the reason for his visit to Martha's Vineyard), the channel he swam across after the accident, the hotel he stayed in, the airport at which he both arrived and quickly departed the island from after the incident, and the courthouse where his hearing was held.

While we will never know with 100% certainty what really happened that night, I hope that after watching this video, you'll be able to form an educated opinion of your own. While visiting Martha's Vineyard, something inside me felt compelled to see these places for myself and make this video in honor of Mary Jo, so that she may not be forgotten.
