Sandia Peak Ski Area Reopening 2:11:2024

Was a bit late but wanted to share since it has been a while. Mostly have riding Lift 3 and skiing down the easy run to the bottom Cibola but it is fun to enjoy the mountain back open again. I wasn't able to make it to the opening but made it on the Sunday after on February 11.

The ski area reopening under entire new ownership. It is now run and owned by the Mountain Capital Partners. With their strong efforts and enthusiasm in the sport, they were able to reopen the ski area with all the runs open. Initially run from the Abruzzo family since the 50's, given the stress of weather, staffing and issues between profitably running their other businesses (Sandia Peak Tramway, Ten3 and Ski Santa Fe), The ski area was down for a couple years. From October, a joint venture agreement with MCP was signed initially for operations of the ski area but as of February assumes full ownership and operations for the ski area. A part of the deal however, the Abruzzo family still owns and operates the tram, the summit restaurant and Ski Santa Fe.

This decision was made as the Abruzzo's can now put full focus into their own businesses and MCP can work on a plan to revive and create investments for the ski area. Hopefully, they can work on providing the much needed investments such as a new lift top to bottom, new snowmaking equipment and coverage, terrain parks and more to bring new customers to the mountain.
