Sharpening mulching mower blade(Stihl RM RTP)

In this video I show you just how quick and simple it is to keep your mulching blade on the Stihl RM RTP sharp.

all you need is a 17mm socket and rachet, flap disk (80 grit) in a grinder. And if you choose it, PPE, glasses, gloves and ear protection.

The process is very simple, Just lift the deck with the handy grab rail, undo and remove the 17 mm bolt and washer. The blade will then drop off and will most likely also include the location plate.

Then either just sharpen the blade in your hands like I did in the video, or if you don't feel comfortable doing that, use a table vice.

Keep the angle of the blade the same as the flap disk, and try to remove as little metal as possible, keeping in mind that you are looking to keep the blade balanced, so removing more metal from one side may end up in the mower suffering from vibrations and early bearing failure.

When re fitting the blade, make extra sure that you install the blade the correct way up ( you would be amazed how many people make that mistake) and also make sure that the bolt is tight.

finally, a quick run of the mower to test. If you feel it necessary, you could give it a final check, making sure the mower is not running.

It is also the perfect time to inspect the cutting deck, or give it a clean.

So, there you have it. A very simple job that 99 % of people could just do them selves.
