Dr. Donald Voth Speaks Rhade (Êđê) Language | Leprosy Work in 1950s Ban Mê Thuột, Vietnam!

Meet Dr. Donald Voth, Professor Emeritus, as he speaks in the Rhade (Êđê) language of Vietnam. In this interview, Dr. Voth shares how the Rhade people affectionately referred to him and his wife during their time in Vietnam. They called him Aê Don as a sign of respect and honor. He also reflects on his work in the 1960s helping Rhade patients with leprosy in Ban Mê Thuột. With no English, the Rhade patients would point to parts of their bodies to show symptoms. Within a short period of time, Dr. Voth learned to speak their language and became an interpreter for his colleagues. Even though he hasn’t lived among the Rhade community for decades, he is still able to speak the language. Dr. Donald Voth, thank you for allowing us to interview you!
